It does not work.Engine running and up to temp. Set parking brake. Cruise off. Press the Parked Regen button. If the engine needs it, it will start. If you press the button and the light just flashes that means something is inhibiting the regen. This could be anything from it simply doesn't need one, to an engine fault.Some of the DPF systems work on pressure differential pre and post DPF filter. When the pressures start to be higher on the inlet than the outlet, it triggers a regen. What the Original Poster is doing is the best way to keep the DPF clean without excessive regen cycles. WORK IT and the engine keeps is clean with fewer regen cycles.

That light advises you that the exhaust temps are elevated and not to park near combustibles. As for the parked regen not working there may be a fault code that detects a issue that the regen cannot be performed until the fault is resolved. This is a safety device to protect the engine. My truck is not lowering the soot level after the regen, it completes the regen as usual with the temps good but the soot level stays the same and it asks for more parked regeneration. In the past year, I got DPF, NOX sensors, temp sensors, and differential pressure sensors changed. I checked for leaks in the exhaust and nothing in there.
